Welcome to Truckee/Tahoe EAA Chapter 1073! Support through participation is our motto and we are always seeking active new members! We currently have 97 members with 30 of them actively building or restoring aircraft. Most others are very active pilots
Those of us who are aviation minded recognize the EAA as an
outstanding
organization and are proud to be members. A handful of "locals" were
interested
enough to form Chapter #1073 a few years ago, allowing all of us to be
involved. Look what happened! Our Chapter is as active and supportive
of
EAA principles as any other could be. The membership makes this Chapter
great. We have a very wide range of talent and experience to draw on
and
every time a problem surfaces someone volunteers to solve it.
Young Eagles: The mission of the program is to provide young people a FREE introductory flight experience. Children between the ages of 8 and 17 are welcome and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. This year we will be flying Young Eagles at the Pancake Breakfasts in April, May, June, July, August, September and October. Kids (we call them Young Eagles) should register between 8 and 8:30 a.m. All Pilots are volunteers and are not compensated in any way for this great educational experience. For more details eagles@eaa1073.org
We have two regularly scheduled meetings each month and they are held at the chapterhouse:
Pancake breakfasts are held the SECOND Saturday of each month from 8am to 10am and open to
the public.
For $5 it’s all you can eat including hot coffee and juice. There are
usually several unique aircraft sitting on the ramp in front of the
chapterhouse as many of our local members and sister chapter pilots drop in and put
their planes out on display.
THIRD WEDNESDAY: General Membership Meeting 6PM: We always have a “pot luck” dinner with the meeting happening an hour later. Just bring something that we all can share in and drop it on the table as you arrive. We try to have a guest speaker to attend our monthly membership meetings and topics can vary. They are always aviation related and have proven to be very interesting and informative.
NEW
First
Friday-night Flying Flix- We will be showing flying movies
at the airport chapter house an aviation related movie. This is
open to the public and free to all. The doors will open about
6:00 PM. Presentations from EAA, Civil Air Patrol, 99s, FAA or
other airport entities may precede the movie. So we'll see you
there, the first Friday of each month.
For
more information, contact Charlie White, movies@eaa1073.org
or daytime phone 587-4811.
Upcoming programs:
Oct 5, the Truckee Tahoe Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Assn.
(EAA) will once again be offering an interesting movie – FOR FREE and
is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
This will be a double-feature: "Bush Pilots of Alaska" will be the first
movie (about 47 minute) and shows how aviation has affected the Alaska
wildness and the economy in general. Learn what it takes to be a Bush
Pilot.
"Super Cubs gone Wild" will follow (about 24 minutes) showing how those fine
airplanes can land and take off from almost anywhere.
October 17 Reid Dennis, of Woodside, California.
Reid has years of flying experiences and hopes to bring his twin-engine “Albatross”, or his “Mallard” for viewing after about 3 p.m. A $15 Steak Dinner, with all the trimmings, will be served at 6 p.m. at the EAA headquarters of the Truckee Tahoe Airport. At 7 p.m. Reid will talk about his 2 ½ month, 26,347 nautical mile around-the-world trip in his Albatross.
In 1997, Reid escorted and supported the flight of Linda Finch flying around the world in a Lockheed Electra, Model “10-E” to commemorate Amelia Earhart’s last flight and 100th birthday. The Albatross served as a platform for much of the spectacular photography of Finch’s historic flight and carried eight, or nine people (including his wife, journalists, photographers and cameramen), depending upon the weight and distances involved.
Reid will also show slides of a movie he produced in association with the National Air & Space Museum and Smithsonian Institution. Reid will take us on a journey around the world recreating Amelia's flight and reliving the adventure through her diaries and logbooks. Through interviews with aviation experts and historians we may discover a new solution to the mystery of her disappearance.
For more information and to place your tentative Reservation, please call Dave Linde: (530) 587-0459, before Noon, October 15.

Chapterhouse Builders Program/Rental Space: One very
desirable
feature to our chapterhouse is the project construction areas available
for rent to our members. These areas are well lit and
heated.
See one of the officers for more details.
Its easy to join, either drop in on
one of our functions or check the Membership Application.
Flight Advisors are EAA member-volunteers who can help you evaluate your own flying skills. They won’t give you “yes” or “no” on your flight abilities, but help you develop guidelines for making your decision. If you need more instruction in a certain type of airplane, a Flight Advisor can help you find it. If you choose to have a test pilot fly your airplane instead, a Flight Advisor can help you find and evaluate other pilots. Flight Advisors also have the resources of the EAA available to assist you.
An EAA Technical Counselor is an experienced volunteer advisor who
shares
knowledge and expertise with aircraft builders. These Technical
Counselors
are part of the “member helping member” tradition of the EAA. They
advise
builders on constructing a safe, airworthy aircraft for final FAA
inspection.
These volunteers, who offer their services at no charge, are at least
one
of the following:
· Have built an experimental category aircraft;· Have restored an antique/classic aircraft;
· Hold an A&P, IA, DAR, DER or Aerospace Engineer rating in the U.S., an equivalent international rating or have the qualifications for those ratings;
· In the case of an ultralight Technical Counselor, have experience and ability to provide technical assistance to ultralight aircraft builders.
These volunteers visit projects and advise builders on how to comply
with building instructions and federal regulations. Technical
Counselors
offer tips based on their experience and help builders to avoid costly
mistakes. Through Technical Counselors, EAA helps maintain the
excellent
reputation of the amateur-built program.

Well, that covers most of it. Contact us for more information or to
